Dental Implants

Dental implants provide a permanent and robust solution for missing teeth. Implants are artificial teeth that are mounted on titanium screws placed in the jawbone.

WHAT IS AN IMPLANT?

Implants are metal structures made of titanium or titanium alloys that are placed in the jawbone of patients who have lost their teeth. These are used instead of the lost teeth of the patients and the previously described aims are tried to be achieved with the prostheses made on them.

It is the placement of screw teeth into the jawbone. This treatment option, which more and more patients want to benefit from in recent years, is also applied by specialised physicians in our clinic.

In which cases can an implant be performed?

It should not be forgotten that your teeth are an organ that affects not only our chewing but also our speech, our appearance and even our personal charisma. Implants can be applied in cases of single tooth deficiency, multiple tooth deficiency and complete toothlessness.

What are our treatment goals?

Elimination of all kinds of toothlessness and missing functions with implants and implant prostheses supported by them,

- Elimination of a single missing tooth without affecting the neighbouring healthy teeth,

- Elimination of multiple tooth deficiencies by making fixed bridges with the help of implants instead of removable prostheses,

- In the case of complete edentulism, it is not possible to make fixed prostheses instead of removable prostheses (palate).

Who can be implanted?

A normal wound has the capacity to heal,

- Good oral hygiene Adequate amount or healthy bone structure with the potential to reach an adequate amount,

- Implants can be applied to everyone who does not have systemic diseases (diabetes, advanced osteoporosis, etc.) that constitute a disadvantage for implant construction.

- Implant is a robust, comfortable and reliable application. Prostheses made on implants create the most natural structure while replacing real teeth. In the process of completing the missing teeth, healthy teeth are not touched. In addition, implants are much longer lasting than other prosthesis options.

- Implant treatment will be the first alternative that will come to mind, especially in our patients who have lost the chance to use fixed prostheses due to tooth deficiencies or in our patients who complain that their total prostheses are not fixed in their mouths due to bone resorption.

- Because the prolonged human life span due to the development of living standards has made many of us demand a certain comfort of life in advanced ages. Again, using mobile (removable) prostheses from a young age is not something that any of us would desire. At this point, implants offer us a great treatment alternative.

- The effects of tooth loss will be psychological as well as physiological. Implant, as a special application that replaces the natural tooth, offers a definite and healthy solution to the physiological and psychological problems caused by tooth loss or congenital tooth deficiencies.

What is oral implantology?

Plates, screws and nails made of titanium, which are placed in the place of lost teeth for the purpose of treatment and do not have any side effects for the organism and can function like a natural tooth after completing the combination with bone tissue, are called implants.

- The tooth made on the implant looks like your natural tooth and shows natural performance.

- Implant is an application as old as human history. In various periods of history, people have seen it as a solution to mount parts that will serve as teeth on the jawbone.

- Today, the most commonly used metal as implant material is titanium. Titanium is a metal with excellent tissue compatibility and has been used safely in many fields of medicine for centuries.

- Titanium, which is shaped as a root, cylinder or screw, is ready for use as a dental implant after undergoing a number of special processes (special design pickling, laser roughening, etc.). These processes determine the quality of the implant.

- As a result of tooth loss or trauma, physiological bone resorption causes a decrease in the level and volume of the jawbone. This prevents the prosthesis to be applied from fully fulfilling its function. As a result, there are problems in chewing and speaking.

Can implants be applied at any age?

Yes. Only bone development in young people needs to be completed. This can be achieved by the age of 16-17 for girls and 18 for boys.

- There is no upper age limit for adults. It can be applied to people of any age with appropriate general health status. Elderly people need dental implants more because they lose more teeth and there is melting in their jaw bones.

Are all dental implants successful?

For the success of the implants, good general health, i.e. sufficient "healing potential", correct diagnosis and proper cleaning and maintenance of the implant are required. In addition, appropriate surgery and appropriate prosthesis must be performed by the physician. In addition, excessive smoking and/or excessive alcohol use will adversely affect success.

What is oral implantology?

The first patients have been using their implants successfully for more than thirty years. This duration depends on several variables, such as the general state of health, daily care and cleaning of the implant. Nevertheless, as with any other medical intervention, in principle, a lifetime guarantee of implant success can vary between 90-100%.

In cases where the implant is not possible;

Some physical conditions or disabilities may prevent implantation. These are

- Severe bone resorption,

- Significant heart disorders,

- Blood clotting problems,

- Rheumatic diseases,

- Overindulgence and similar conditions,

- In patients with diabetes (diabetes mellitus); in cases where diabetes is not under control and diabetes does not progress regularly,

- The bone structure in the jaw is unsuitable, inadequate or anatomically risky,

- The patient is not predisposed to surgical procedures (excessive fear, anxiety),

- The financial situation of the patient is not good (it is an expensive procedure),

- Situations where the patient cannot provide complete oral hygiene (mouth cleaning) after the implant.

If the treatment fails?

The implant can be removed with a very simple procedure and the site heals spontaneously.

Are implants rejected by the body?

Implants are mostly made of biocompatible materials called titanium. Since titanium is not a living substance, it does not create an antigen-antibody reaction as in heart and kidney transplants. Therefore, a "tissue rejection" cannot be mentioned.

Is there a risk of cancer?

In the world of medicine and dentistry, there is not a single example of dental implants causing cancer.

Are dental implants applied for cosmetic reasons?

The main application area of dental implants is the elimination of tooth deficiency. Cosmetic improvements can also be achieved while eliminating tooth deficiency.

Can a guarantee be given?

Scientific studies have shown that implant success varies between 90-100%. However, as with any medical intervention, it is not possible to guarantee implants. However, in our clinic, the conditions necessary to increase the success of treatment are brought together with the utmost care.

What are the main criteria that determine our treatment success?

- First of all, case selection, i.e. setting the right indication, is the first condition for treatment success,

- Correct prosthetic planning,

- Suitability of clinical conditions (availability of necessary surgical materials and sterilisation conditions),

- Demonstration of adequate surgical skill,

- Preference for implant brands with proven clinical reliability based on years and a large number of cases,

- and to maintain the same care and skill while making the superstructure (implant prosthesis),

- These are our main criteria that keep our treatment success high.

Will I have any discomfort during and after the operation?

The operation can be performed with local anaesthesia and sedation without any pain and discomfort. General anaesthesia can also be applied if necessary. After the operation, there may be a slight pain or swelling that can be felt after any tooth extraction. These can be easily eliminated with painkillers and necessary precautions.

Is an implant an expensive treatment?

Implant applications require a series of complex and long-term procedures. Therefore, they also require a higher expenditure than routine dental services. In a study of patients who had completed implant treatments, patients stated that they had received a return on their investment and would have the same thing done again if necessary.

How long does it take to complete the implantation operation and prosthesis?

The duration of the surgery can vary from half an hour to several hours depending on the number of implants to be placed and the patient's conditions. After the operation, the implant and bone are allowed to fuse (osseointegration) for 3-6 months. Then, prostheses are placed on these implants with an application that takes several sessions.
